Eldo E Frezza MD, M.B.A., F.A.C.S. 

Dr. Eldo E. Frezza was born and raised in Italy. He graduated with disctinction from the University of Padua Medical School and completed his residency at Staten Island University Hospital . He holds fellowships in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery and Transplant Surgery from the University of Pittsburgh and an MBA from the Rawls School of Business at Texas Tech University. He is currently a tenured Professor and Chief of General Surgery at the Texas Tech University Health Science Center and is Director of the university's divisions for Bariatric Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery, and Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery. He also holds an appointment as Joint Professor in the Microbiology and Immunology Department.

In his practice, Dr. Frezza has treated thousands of patients for both their surgical and non-surgical weight loss as well as long-term weight management. He was one of the first physicians to use the Gastric Banding producedure in the USA. This procedure was first developed at the University of Padua, where Dr. Frezza graduated. Dr. Frezza is also the inventor of an exciting, new procedure called Gastric Banding with stomach reduction (GBSR).

Dr. Frezza is a member of a number of prestigious medical and scientific institutions including: the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the Academic Surgical Society (AAS), American Society of Bariatric Surgery (ASBS), the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), the Southeastern Society of Surgery, the American Medical Association (AMA), and the North Texas Chapter of the American College of Surgeons (NTACS). Recently, he has been recognized as one of the 100 bariatric surgeons in the USA by the Consumer's Research Council of America.

Dr. Frezza is a regular contributor to major medical journals on the subject of bariatric surgery, weight-loss-associated health issues, the healthcare economy, laparoscopic and GI surgery and oncology. He has also served as a contributing editor to the following scientific journals: Obesity Surgery, Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases, Social Science and Medicine, Journal of Laparoendoscopic and Advanced Surgical Technique, Journal Society Laparoscopic Surgery, American Surgeon, Journal of Social Sciences, Surgical Endoscopy, European Journal fo Gastroenterelogy Digestive Diseases and Sciences, Surgical Endoscopy, Intensive Care Medicine, European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, and the American Journal of Medical Quality. He has written a chapter on the impact of obesity on the state economy for a textbook written by a group of world-renowned physicians. His book on finance and the practice of surgery, is currently in press with CineMed Publishing and will be presented at the next ACS meeting in 2007.

Dr. Frezza is a frequent speaker on the international and national medical lecture circuit, as well as television. He has been invited to teach in countries such as Italy, England, China, Switzerland and Mexico and has been recently named International Ambassador for Teaching Laparoscopic Surgery by the International Federation of Laparoscopic Surgery. Because of his significant contributions to medical planning and response in the event of a crisis due to weapons of mass destructions, he has been appointed as West Texas Commander and Colonel for the Texas Rangers Medical Corps.
